Who was Mr. Harry Hughes?

 The Legacy of Harry Hughes

Harry Hughes spent most of his leisure time with children and horses! He trained, showed, and shared his knowledge of horses and his experiences with young riders.  His  mission was to teach children excellent sportsmanship via horsemanship and positive care for animals through horses.  Adults learned from him too!

Mr. Hughes became a National Director of the Appaloosa Horse Club!  He judged horse shows and put on special clinics.  The children and their clubs were not charged for his services.  He was given an Honorary Member Award which is the highest honor that is bestowed by the Ohio 4H.

After his death in 1972, his ideas and beliefs were carried through by friends forming a not for profit organization known at the Harry Hughes Horseman’s Haven Inc. (H.H.H.H.)  Harry Hughes Horseman’s Haven is the Board’s identity that runs the Youth Equestrian Center.  The Jones Family donated the land where the Harry Hughes Youth Equestrian Center is located.  Various horse groups, businesses and individuals have donated time, money and ideas to build the equestrian center into a facility we have today. This facility has made Mr. Hughes, his family, and our community proud. It is through his beliefs, love for horses, youth and positive sportsmanship as well as your support of The Harry Hughes Youth Equestrian Center that this organization is thriving today.  Please continue to honor Mr. Hughes with your best abilities while enjoying the Youth Center.
